Heather Mathewson joined IRNR as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate that coordinates all current projects being conducted pertaining to the study of the golden cheeked warbler and black-capped vireo in Texas. She oversees the coordination of these projects and works closely with project leaders.

Heather earned her PhD at the University of Nevada, Reno in the Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology program. Her dissertation focused on factors affecting reproductive success and population demographics of willow flycatchers. She continues to supervise the long-term research in the Sierra Nevada on willow flycatchers and other riparian-nesting passerines.
