Land Information Systems
LIS is a facility of the Texas A&M Institute of Renewable Natural Resources (IRNR) that specializes in geospatial applications that support natural resource management. The goal of the lab is to support research, teaching, and education through the integration of geospatial tools and techniques to enhance how natural resources are analyzed and managed. Support includes providing innovative solutions that involve the use of GIS, GPS, remote sensing, and spatially explicit databases.
The lab is partnered with the Texas Geospatial Extension Program which serves as a bridge between geospatial technologies and natural resource decision support. LIS has a workforce development program whose focus is training both the public and researchers in the use of geospatial technologies. LIS houses staff with expertise in advanced geospatial analysis, database design and development, GIS/GPS/RS applications, and internet mapping and design. The Land Information Systems lab is the only Texas Cooperative Extension laboratory that specializes in geospatial applications in natural resource management. It is located in the Centeq Research Plaza on the Texas A&M University campus.
