Bruce Beard is associate director for the Texas A&M Institute of Renewable Natural Resources’ Military Sustainability Program, supporting the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Installations and Environment) Sustainable Range Initiative. Working from Washington D.C., Beard helps to coordinate the institute’s efforts exploring the convergence of conservation, working lands and national defense to sustain key landscapes that the U.S. Department of Defense uses to conduct realistic training and weapons system testing that is vital to military readiness.
Beard has over 30 years of federal land management and natural resource policy experience. He was most recently program director for the defense department’s Sustainable Ranges Initiative. Prior to his work at the defense department, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service on the San Bernardino National Forest, California and served in the Executive Office of the President at the Office of Management and Budget in Washington, D.C.
He received his bachelor’s in wildlife and fisheries from Texas A&M University and a master of public affairs, environmental policy, from Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
